The Problem

A compact, intuitive tool for people who don't consider themselves “handy”.
Most existing drills and screwdrivers are bulky, intimidating and difficult to use for quick everyday tasks , especially for users who are not experienced with power tools. Quill addresses the need for a compact, intuitive device that combines both drilling and screwdriving in one seamless body while keeping comfort and ease of use front and centre.
The product also integrates a built-in compartment for screwdriver bits, improving portability, organization and user convenience during everyday repair and assembly tasks.

This was the form inspiration board , a collection of soft, pocketable objects defined by rounded volumes, clean partings and tactile material breaks. The language is quiet and friendly: matte shells, subtle grip zones and a simplified silhouette that hides power inside an approachable form.

Early sketch studies explored the product as a softer handheld object: compact proportions, clear grip zones and a simplified silhouette that feels less intimidating than a traditional drill.

Foam models tested hand fit, balance and button reach, turning the sketch direction into a physical volume that could be held, adjusted and refined before final rendering.
